Amateur (Ham) Radio as a National resource

Radio amateurs are trained and experienced in electronics and in propagation Theory. As electronic devices proliferate in our modern world there must be a corresponding increase in the number of individuals trained in their design, operation, maintenance and application.

Amateur radio can provide domestic, technical expertise that lead to an increase in national self-reliance, continuous use of radio technology, build technical expertise and expose youth to the world of telecommunications and possibly a career in modern electronics.

Disaster Communications

Amateur Radio enthusiasts are known the world over for their ability and willingness to respond swiftly and effectively to calls for communication support during a calamity. In the event of a natural disaster, direct communication between amateur stations and vital national communications are carried out until normal communications can be restored.

Radio amateurs also provide crucial communications assistance in such instances as floods, disaster relief and food distribution. Other such instances may be in terrorist attacks, e.g. World Trade Center bombing, at sea communications (pirate attacks), weather updates and warnings, transport disasters e.g. rail or road damage in remote areas, etc.

Radio amateurs take pride in their ability to provide this unique public service and work at maintaining a state of Readiness through various training exercises.
